Temperature records broken across BC, including in Kelowna, Kamloops, Penticton

Temperature records were broken all across the BC Interior on the weekend after a heat wave settled over the region.

Kelowna, Kamloops, Penticton, Vernon, Merritt and other areas all logged unprecedented highs on Sunday.

According to Environment Canada’s preliminary assessment of the temperatures, new records were set as follows:

  • CACHE CREEK AREA (Ashcroft): New record of 40.3ºC; old record of 36.9ºC set in 2015

  • CLINTON AREA (Clinton RCS): New record of 32.6ºC; old record of 32ºC set in 2017

  • FORT NELSON AREA (Fort Nelson): New record of 31.4ºC; old record of 30.6ºC set in 1953

  • GIBSONS AREA (Sechelt Aut): New record of 30.2ºC; old record of 30ºC set in 2010

  • KAMLOOPS AREA (Kamloops Aut): New record of 38.3ºC; old record of 35.6ºC set in 1906

  • KELOWNA AREA (Kelowna UBCO): New record of 36.5ºC; old record of 35.6ºC set in 1970

  • LANGLEY AREA: New record of 33.3ºC; old record of 32.6ºC set in 2010

  • LILLOOET AREA: New record of 38.8ºC; old record of 38.4ºC set in 2015

  • LYTTON AREA (Lytton RCS): New record of 39.9ºC; old record of 38.9ºC set in 1953

  • MALAHAT AREA (Malahat): New record of 30.7ºC; old record of 29.1ºC set in 2010

  • MERRITT AREA (Merritt): New record of 35.7ºC; old record of 35.6ºC set in 2015

  • NANAIMO AREA: New record of 33.3ºC; old record of 32.2ºC set in 2010

  • PEMBERTON AREA (Pemberton Airport CS): New record of 38ºC; old record of 35.6ºC set in 1953

  • PENTICTON AREA (Penticton A): New record of 36.5ºC; old record of 36.1ºC set in 1960

  • PUNTZI MOUNTAIN AREA (Puntzi Mountain (AUT)): New record of 32.9ºC; old record of 32.1ºC set in 2015

  • QUALICUM BEACH AREA: New record of 30.6ºC; old record of 29.1ºC set in 2010

  • SECHELT AREA (Sechelt Aut): New record of 30.2ºC; old record of 30ºC set in 2010

  • SMITHERS AREA (Smithers Airport Auto): New record of 31.8ºC; old record of 30.1ºC set in 2021

  • TATLAYOKO LAKE AREA (Tatlayoko Lake RCS): New record of 32.4ºC; old record of 31.1ºC set in 1931

  • VERNON AREA (Vernon Auto): New record of 36.1ºC; old record of 34.5ºC set in 2015

  • WHISTLER AREA (Whistler - Nesters): New record of 33.2ºC; old record of 32.3ºC set in 2023

  • WILLIAMS LAKE AREA: New record of 31.9ºC; old record of 31.1ºC set in 2017

Heat warnings remain in place across the province today, with temperatures of up to 40ºC expected in some areas.
