Former NHL enforcer Stephen Peat has died from his injuries after he was struck by a vehicle in Langley at the end of August.

“In the wake of this tragic accident, Stephen will be helping to save numerous lives through organ donation,” stated the social media post.

“We send our deepest condolences to Stephen’s family, friends and former teammates during this difficult time.”

Peat was born in Princeton, BC, and drafted 32nd overall by the Anaheim Ducks in 1998.

The 44-year-old spent a season in the BC Junior Hockey League (BCJHL) before jumping to the WHL and playing for the Red Deer Rebels, Tri-City Americans and the Calgary Hitmen.

Peat made his NHL debut for the Washington Capitals in the 2001-02 season, playing in 38 games and notching four points.

After bouncing between the NHL and the American Hockey League for a few years, including a seven-game stop with the Danbury Trashers, Peat retired from Hockey in the 2006-07 season, appearing in 130 total NHL games.
