Smoke will be visible from Lake Country burn project starting as early as today

Crews are set to begin the planned burn of around 100 wood piles in Lake Country.

A release from the BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) explains that the burning will take place west of Hwy 97 in The Lakes subdivision.

The work will begin as early as today and it will all be done over the course of one month.

“The exact timing of the burns will depend on site, weather, venting and snow conditions,” the BCWS explained. “Burning will proceed only if conditions are favourable.”

The burns are part of a wildfire risk reduction project being done in partnership between the BCWS and District of Lake Country.

Smoke, or even flames, are expected to be visible from Lake Country and surrounding areas while the project is underway.

The BCWS says pile burning helps limit wildfire hazards by reducing accumulations of fuel like dead wood or brush.
