You’d have to go all the way back to 1980 to find a world where Terry-Lee Beaudry was not employed in some form by Central Okanagan Public Schools (SD23).
The long-time educator will retire at the end of 2024 from her current role as deputy superintendent of schools.
She grew up in the Central Okanagan and graduated from Rutland Senior Secondary, then attended school at UBC before returning home to begin her teaching career in 1981.
Superintendent Kevin Kaardal says Beaudry “led a storied career” as a teacher, school administrator, director of instruction, assistant superintendent and finally deputy superintendent.
"She shared her passion for education widely, and her impact on our district will remain evident through both her own legacy and the work of her many colleagues and friends,” he explained.
One of those colleagues and friends is Lee-Ann Tiede, who spoke highly of Beaudry’s work over the past four decades and the “personally meaningful impact” she had on Tiede’s work as a trustee.
"Her role as a bridge between our district and the world is invaluable,” noted Tiede. “Whether fostering relationships with international delegates or supporting students and staff through academic challenges, her influence is profound.”
One of the biggest legacies Beaudry will leave behind is her efforts around reconciliation within SD23 and the Central Okanagan.
She guided the development of SD23’s Equity in Action for Truth and Reconciliation Agreement and so much more, which she called “an honour” to be able to do.
"It has been an absolute privilege and pleasure to have spent my entire professional career in SD23, supporting the needs of our community's children and families," Beaudry said.
"I feel incredibly fortunate and proud to have worked with such exceptional colleagues, students, parents/caregivers and community members over the years to enhance learning for all students.”
Beaudry is currently on secondment with the Ministry of Education and Childcare, but will return to SD23 in mid-November.
Her final day of work will be on Dec. 31, 2024.
