New Arc’teryx store now open in downtown Kelowna

One of British Columbia’s most recognizable brands now has a brick-and-mortar store in Kelowna.

After a few months of construction on their building at 313 Bernard Ave., Arc'teryx has officially opened the doors to their new downtown Kelowna location.

“The brand is a welcome one to our business mix in downtown Kelowna and will hopefully bring even more foot traffic and shoppers to our diverse retail mix,” Downtown Kelowna Association executive director Mark Burley told KelownaNow in January.

Arc’teryx is a brand headquartered in North Vancouver that has spread well beyond the province’s borders.

The company focuses on technical apparel for mountaineering and alpine sports, and is known for its waterproof Gore-tex shell jackets, knitwear and down parkas.

Founded by Dave Lane in Vancouver in 1989, the brand was originally called Rock Solid before rebranding to Arc’teryx two years later.

The name and logo reference the Archaeopteryx, the transitional fossil of early dinosaurs to modern dinosaurs.

While the store has quietly opened its doors, the grand opening celebrations will happen this weekend, starting at 10 am on Saturday, June 15.

“Be ready to get the day started with coffee from our friends at Boa Vida and tunes from our local partners,” says the Arc’teryx community events page.

“The first 50 guests in the store will receive a gift on us. You won’t want to miss our Kelowna stickers and t-shirts!”

Outdoor enthusiasts in Kelowna have plenty to be excited about, as Arc’teryx has joined Swedish brand Fjällräven as the newest tenants of Bernard Avenue downtown.
