Nadya’s Back Stube owned and operated by Nadja Ladouceur, has set up a small business at the Farmer’s & Crafters Market at Landmark, up the stairs in the area between the two buildings. It’s a must to visit if you are a regular market visitor. Nadja is a European home-baker who learned traditional baking from her mother, then built on it with creations of her own. Her naturally leavened, long-fermented sourdough breads are made with her own starter and include country whole wheat, rustic white, black forest rye, cranberry walnut, cinnamon raisin, and firehouse cheddar. There is no sugar, no yeast, and no oils in her breads. Her most popular breads are rustic white, cheese, and country whole wheat. She bakes wonderful upside-down sticky buns, with pecan-caramel topping, raisin pecan butter tarts, a large variety of scones, plus her own version of sourdough English muffins and sourdough focaccia. Nadja also makes sourdough parmesan herb crackers which are very hard to find. She will make any flavour of scones by special order. The day I visited the scone flavours were lemon blueberry, apricot coconut, cheese bacon, and cheese jalapeno. Nadja sent me home with sour dough English muffins, lemon and blueberry scones, sourdough crackers, and a large country whole wheat bread. All were incredibly delicious.
After ten years with the KGH Foundation, CEO Allison Young has made the decision to resign as of February 1st, 2027. This marks her 22-year career in the non-profit sector. Allison is now looking forward to what comes next, panning to start a small business. Korean Chicken is served mainly boneless, deep fried with their signature seasonings. The concept is for easy eating. All the chicken is purchased from local growers and made fresh to order. Long-time media guy and sports enthusiast, Wayne Moore, is retiring on August 21/2026. Wayne started his career in Kelowna in 1986 at CKIQ working under Bryan Couling and then became sports director. He left radio in 1990, but the media bug hit him again during the Okanagan Mountain Park Fire and he volunteered his services on SILK-FM in the newsroom. After 23 years, Wayne is now ready to call it a day. His highlight has been the overall body of work. Telling stories of personal triumph and tragedy that really matters to the greater audience. Wayne says he knows he hit the right balance of both sides of an issue when there were complaints that he was biased toward the other side. While Wayne is leaving the day-to-day routine, he is not totally gone. He will continue to cover sports and provide in-house public address for the West Kelowna Warriors and Okanagan Sun. Personally, I have known Wayne for many years. I have enjoyed him on the City of Kelowna Civic and Community Awards as the Chair and on the sports steering committee for many years. I will miss him at the Kelowna City Council meetings on Mondays and also his reporting of the Council events the next day. Wayne, you have always been a fair reporter.

CBC Literary Awards prizewinning writer, Joanna Cockerline, author of the new novel “Still,” which was longlisted for the 2025 Giller Prize – Canada’s most prestigious literary award was shortlisted for the Rakuten Kobo Emerging Writer Prize for the best first book of literary fiction in Canada. Still is set amid the vibrancy and precarity of unhoused and street-level sex work communities and follows the story of a woman who lives and works on the streets of Kelowna who is looking for a fellow sex worker who has gone missing. The novel is informed by Cockerline’s own experience as a long-time street outreach volunteer and co-founder of a non-profit street outreach organization.
